Looking for a Halloween project that’s more cute than spooky? This little crochet bat is exactly that — a round, chubby amigurumi bat with purple wings, tiny fangs and a big personality. It works up in about two hours, uses only basic stitches, and makes a perfect Halloween decoration, gift or market bestseller.
What You Will Need

- Black yarn (DK or worsted) — about 50 g
- Purple yarn — small amount for the wings and inner ears
- Pink yarn — a tiny scrap for the cheeks (optional)
- White yarn or embroidery thread — for the fangs
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
- 8 mm safety eyes (or black yarn to embroider them)
- Fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle, stitch marker, scissors
Abbreviations (US Terms)
MR = magic ring · sc = single crochet · inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch) · dec = invisible decrease · ch = chain · sl st = slip stitch · dc = double crochet · FO = fasten off
Step 1: The Head

Work in continuous rounds with black yarn.
- Round 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Round 2: inc in each stitch (12)
- Round 3: (sc, inc) × 6 (18)
- Round 4: (2 sc, inc) × 6 (24)
- Round 5: (3 sc, inc) × 6 (30)
- Rounds 6–10: sc in each stitch (30)
- Place the safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9, about 6 stitches apart.
- Round 11: (3 sc, dec) × 6 (24)
- Round 12: (2 sc, dec) × 6 (18) — stuff the head firmly.
- Round 13: (sc, dec) × 6 (12)
- Round 14: dec × 6 (6). FO and close the hole.
Step 2: The Body
- Round 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
- Round 2: inc in each stitch (12)
- Round 3: (sc, inc) × 6 (18)
- Rounds 4–7: sc in each stitch (18)
- Round 8: (sc, dec) × 6 (12). Stuff lightly.
- Round 9: dec × 6 (6). FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Step 3: The Ears (Make 2)
With black yarn: Round 1: MR, 4 sc (4). Round 2: (sc, inc) × 2 (6). Round 3: (2 sc, inc) × 2 (8). Round 4: sc in each stitch (8). Flatten the ear — do not stuff. FO, leaving a tail. For the inner ear, crochet a tiny triangle with purple yarn (ch 3, turn, sc 2, turn, sc 1) and sew it to the front of each ear.
Step 4: The Wings (Make 2)

Worked flat with purple yarn. Ch 14. Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across (13). Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc 11, dec (12). Row 3: ch 1, turn, dec, sc 10 (11). Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc 9, dec (10). Scalloped edge: turn the wing and work along the bottom edge — (sl st in next stitch, skip 1, 5 dc in the next stitch, skip 1) — repeat 3 times to form the wing’s points. Border: join black yarn and sc evenly around the whole wing for that bold black outline. FO, leaving a tail for sewing.
Step 5: Assembly & Face

- Sew the head on top of the body with the long tail.
- Sew the ears to the top of the head, slightly to the sides.
- Sew the wings to the back and sides of the body, angled upward so your bat looks ready to fly.
- Embroider a small smiling mouth, then add two tiny white fangs.
- Add pink cheeks: embroider two small circles under the eyes, or sew on two tiny pink crochet circles.
