Crochet Baby Crocs – Easy Baby Shoes Pattern

These adorable baby crocs are made from a simple clog-shaped shoe body with small ventilation holes and a strap over the top. It’s an easy, beginner-friendly project that works up quickly for tiny feet.

What You Need

  • Worsted weight yarn (in your chosen clog color, plus a contrast color for the strap, optional)
  • Crochet hook (Suggested: 3.5–4 mm, matched to your yarn)
  • Small amount of stuffing (polyester fiberfill), optional for the toe area
  • Yarn needle (for sewing pieces and weaving in ends)
  • Small button or snap for the strap closure (optional)
  • Measuring tape
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

How to Make It

Step 1: Make the Sole

Chain a short foundation to match the length of the baby’s foot (Suggested: measure against the baby’s foot or a baby shoe you already have) and work single crochet around the chain in an oval shape, increasing evenly at both rounded ends to widen the sole slightly. Work one or two rounds total to create a flat, sturdy base.

Step 2: Build the Sides of the Shoe

Working directly into the stitches of the sole, begin crocheting upward in rounds of single crochet, keeping the stitch count even so the sides rise straight up from the sole without increasing or decreasing. Continue until the sides reach up and over the toe area, leaving an opening at the top of the foot for the foot to slide in, similar to a clog shape.

Step 3: Shape the Front and Heel

Continue working rounds, but begin decreasing slightly at the very front toe area so the front of the shoe curves up and over the toes like a closed-toe clog. At the back heel area, keep the stitch height slightly lower or leave a small opening if you want an open-back slip-on style.

Step 4: Add Ventilation Holes (Optional)

To mimic the classic croc-style holes, skip a stitch and chain one in its place at a few evenly spaced points across the top and sides of the shoe as you work your rounds (Suggested: 3–5 small holes per shoe). This creates small gaps in the fabric that look like the ventilation holes on real clogs.

Step 5: Make the Strap

Chain a short length of stitches long enough to go across the top of the foot from one side of the shoe to the other (Suggested: check by holding the chain across the shoe opening). Work single crochet back along the chain on both sides to create a flat strap shape.

Step 6: Make the Second Shoe

Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to make a matching second shoe, using the same stitch counts and rounds so both shoes come out the same size.

Finishing

  • Sew one end of the strap securely to one side of the shoe opening, then attach a small button or snap to the other side if you want the strap to open and close.
  • Weave in all remaining loose ends with the yarn needle on both shoes.
  • Gently shape each shoe by pressing the toe and heel into place so they sit evenly and match each other.

Helpful Tips

  • Measure against the baby’s actual foot length before starting, since baby shoe sizes change quickly and a shoe made for an average size may not fit a specific baby.
  • Keep your ventilation holes small and evenly spaced, since holes that are too large can stretch out of shape with wear.
  • Make both shoes side by side, one round at a time, rather than finishing one completely before starting the other, so it’s easier to keep the sizing identical.

Final Result

A pair of soft, clog-style crochet baby shoes with cute ventilation holes and a secure strap — a quick, practical handmade gift for a little one’s feet.
