Crochet Teddy Bear Bedtime – Easy Free Crochet Pattern

This cuddly teddy bear is made from a few simple rounded pieces joined together, perfect as a soft bedtime companion. It’s an easy, beginner-friendly project using basic amigurumi shaping.

What You Need

  • Worsted weight yarn (main color for the body, plus a lighter contrast color for the muzzle and inner ears, optional)
  • Crochet hook (Suggested: 3.5–4 mm, matched to your yarn)
  • Stuffing (polyester fiberfill)
  • Yarn needle (for sewing pieces and weaving in ends)
  • Small black beads or safety eyes (or embroider the eyes)
  • Small amount of black or brown yarn for the nose and mouth
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

How to Make It

Step 1: Make the Head

Start with a magic ring and work single crochet in a spiral, increasing evenly each round until the head reaches your desired width (Suggested: about 6–7 rounds increasing). Work a few straight rounds, then decrease gradually toward the end. Stuff firmly as you close the last rounds so the head holds a round shape.

Step 2: Make the Body

Using the same technique as the head, crochet a slightly larger rounded shape: increase rounds first, then straight rounds, then decrease rounds at the top to close it. Stuff firmly before closing so the body is soft but holds its shape.

Step 3: Make the Muzzle

If using a contrast color for the face, crochet a small flat or slightly domed circle with just a couple of increase rounds. This piece sits on the lower front of the head and doesn’t need much stuffing.

Step 4: Make the Arms (Make 2)

Crochet two small tube shapes: start with a magic ring, increase for one round, then work several straight rounds to the desired arm length. Stuff lightly so they stay soft but keep their shape when sewn to the body.

Step 5: Make the Legs (Make 2)

Crochet two slightly larger tube or oval shapes the same way as the arms, with a few increase rounds to widen the foot area, then straight rounds up the leg. Stuff lightly so the legs stay soft but help the bear sit upright.

Step 6: Make the Ears (Make 2)

Crochet two small flat circles using just one or two increase rounds. Leave these unstuffed or fold them slightly flat so they can be sewn onto the head as rounded ears.

Finishing

  • Sew the muzzle onto the lower front of the head, then attach the eyes above it and stitch a small nose and mouth using black or brown yarn.
  • Sew the two ears onto the top of the head, spacing them evenly on either side.
  • Sew the head onto the top of the body, keeping it centered and upright.
  • Attach the arms to the upper sides of the body and the legs to the bottom front, positioning them so the bear can sit.
  • Weave in all remaining loose ends with the yarn needle.

Helpful Tips

  • Stuff the head and body firmly so the bear holds its shape well, since a bedtime companion gets hugged and squeezed often.
  • Pin the ears, arms, and legs in place with removable stitch markers before sewing, so you can check the placement looks even on both sides.
  • Keep the facial features simple and centered — a slightly crooked nose or mismatched eyes can change the bear’s expression more than you’d expect.

Final Result

A soft, round little teddy bear with a friendly face and sturdy limbs — a cozy, huggable companion perfect for bedtime.
