Crochet Mushroom Keychain – Cute Amigurumi Pattern

This tiny mushroom keychain is made from just two simple crocheted pieces joined together, then finished with a keyring. It’s a quick, beginner-friendly project you can finish in one sitting.

What You Need

  • Worsted weight yarn (a bright color for the cap, and cream or white for the stem)
  • Crochet hook (Suggested: 3–3.5 mm, matched to your yarn for a firm fabric)
  • Small amount of stuffing (polyester fiberfill)
  • Yarn needle (for sewing pieces and weaving in ends)
  • Keychain ring or clasp
  • White yarn or thread for small dot details on the cap (optional)
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

How to Make It

Step 1: Make the Mushroom Cap

Start with a magic ring and work single crochet in a spiral, increasing evenly each round until the piece reaches your desired cap width (Suggested: about 4–5 rounds increasing). This creates a flat, rounded circle that will be shaped into a dome.

Step 2: Shape the Cap into a Dome

After your last increase round, work one or two straight rounds with no increases. This adds height to the edge of the circle, curving it into a dome shape like a mushroom cap. Stuff the cap lightly so it holds its rounded shape.

Step 3: Close the Cap

Decrease evenly over the last round or two to narrow the opening at the bottom of the dome, leaving a small hole in the center. Fasten off, but leave a long yarn tail for sewing the cap to the stem later.

Step 4: Make the Stem

Start with a small magic ring, work one increase round to widen it slightly, then work several straight rounds to form a short tube shape. Stuff the stem firmly enough that it stays upright and doesn’t flop over.

Step 5: Attach the Keyring

Before closing the top of the stem, thread a keychain ring or clasp through the last round of stitches so it sits securely at the top center of the stem. Close the top few stitches around the ring to hold it in place, then fasten off.

Finishing

  • Sew the top of the stem to the underside opening of the cap, adjusting the stem so it sits centered and straight.
  • Add a few small stitches with white yarn or thread on the cap for the classic mushroom dot pattern, if desired.
  • Weave in all remaining loose ends with the yarn needle.
  • Give the mushroom a gentle shape and squeeze to even out the stuffing before it’s ready to use.

Helpful Tips

  • Keep the stuffing amount small and even — overstuffing a tiny project like this can distort the cap’s dome shape.
  • Secure the keyring firmly into the stem stitches while crocheting, rather than sewing it in afterward, so it holds up to daily use.
  • Use a smaller hook than usual for a tighter, firmer fabric — this keeps the stuffing from showing through on such a small project.

Final Result

A tiny, cheerful mushroom keychain with a rounded dome cap and sturdy stem — a fun, quick amigurumi to carry on your keys or bag.
